Award winning photographer, Chuck Hodes, has focused his career in two facets of still photography... as one of the entertainment industry's top notch motion picture and television set (or unit) photographers, and as an esteemed commercial shooter for a wide variety of advertising and corporate campaigns. The Midwest native earned a B.A. in Cinema and Photography from Southern Illinois University. He began his chosen career in the commercial photography arena (after a short stint as a staff photojournalist for the Southern Illinoisan) shooting product and fashion photography for several national catalogs, including Sears, Montgomery Wards, and Service Merchandise to name a few. In addition, he shot everything from healthcare to industrial machinery campaigns. While shooting for a client in 1980, he caught a glimpse of a television commercial being filmed on the nearby streets. Intrigued with the production process, he approached the cinematographer during their shooting break who informed the curious upstart that movies and television shows employed "still" shooters on their sets. Zooming in on a new opportunity, Hodes first gained valuable experience by capturing still images on TV commercial shoots for the print portion of the agencies' campaigns. He subsequently was required to join the International Cinematographers Guild (ICG) based in Hollywood, which accredited him to begin shooting stills for television and feature films through the major studios. During his career on the set, Hodes has compiled a list of over 100 credits. His most recent print work can be seen for the popular Hulu series The Bear and Justified: City Primeval, Amazon's Night Sky, starring Sissy Spacek and J.K Simmons which was released the summer of 2022. His other notable images had been seen for six seasons on the hit Fox series, Empire, as well as 10 seasons of Shameless on Showtime. In addition to his work on the set, Hodes has also worked behind-the-scenes as a member of the ICG's National Executive Board. Chuck was nominated in 2015 and was the winner in 2016 of the prestigious Hollywood Publicist Guild Award for Excellence in Unit Still Photography, presented in Beverly Hills, during Oscar weekend. He currently resides in northwest suburban Chicago.
