Award winning unit still photographer, CHUCK HODES, has focused his career in two facets of still photography -- as one of the entertainment industry’s top notch motion picture and television set (or unit) photographers, and as an esteemed commercial shooter for a wide variety of advertising and corporate campaigns. The Midwest native earned a B.A. in Cinema and Photography from Southern Illinois University. He began his chosen career in the commercial photography arena, shooting product photography for many national retail and mail-order catalogs, including Sears. His campaigns over the years have included general consumer products, architecture, soft goods and fashion. While shooting tabletop stills for a catalog in Chicago some years back, he noticed a commercial being filmed on the nearby streets. Intrigued with the production process, he approached the cinematographer, who informed the curious upstart that movies and TV shows employed "still" shooters on their sets. Zooming in on a new opportunity, Hodes first gained valuable experience by capturing still images on TV commercial shoots for the print portion of the agencies’ campaigns. He subsequently joined the International Cinematographers Guild (ICG), based in Hollywood, which accredited him to shoot stills for television and feature films through the major studios and networks. During his career on the set, Hodes has compiled a list of over 100 film/TV credits. His most recent work will be seen in the upcoming Hulu series Justified: City Primeval and the 2nd season of the acclaimed series The Bear. Some of the more recent works includes the sci-fi Amazon series, Night Sky with Sissy Spacek and J.K Simmons. His other notable images had been seen for six seasons on the hit Fox show, Empire, as well as 10 seasons on Showtime's, Shameless. Other work included a shoot with comedian/actor, Ramy Youssef, for HBO. Some of Chuck's feature work include Trust, directed by David Schwimmer..starring Clive Owen and Catherine Keener. The Ron Howard comedy, The Dilemma, starring Vince Vaughn and Kevin James. Faster, Dwayne (The Rock) Johnson's action movie. Additional films include, The Express with Dennis Quaid, Angelina Jolie's Wanted, Harold Ramis’ Ice Harvest, Roll Bounce, Hard Ball, Soul Food, and the Chicago locations for Proof and Derailed. His small screen credits include several Chicago-based TV series, including the highly acclaimed Starz series, Boss. In addition, Chuck's name has been associated with the long running series ER, A&E series The Beast, starring the late Patrick Swayze. Episodes of Undercover Boss for CBS. In addition to his work on the set, Hodes has also worked behind-the-scenes as a member of the ICG’s National Executive Board in Hollywood. Chuck was nominated in 2015 and was the winner in 2016 of the prestigious Hollywood Publicist Guild award for excellence in Unit Still Photography presented in Beverly Hills during Oscar weekend. He currently resides in northwest suburban Chicago.
